We’re huge soccer fans here and we had the pleasure to speak with Ms. Carli Lloyd.
Carli Lloyd started her international Debut in 2005 against Ukraine, but we wanted to think back with her and talk about the beginning of her career. I have, to be honest – when she said gave me goose bumps picturing myself in her shoes. “ I was extremely nervous the night before my debut and when I entered the game. I was so excited and couldn’t believe how many fans were there screaming and shouting ‘USA’ I remember losing at my jersey before I put it on with my name & Number on it thinking to myself that my dream of playing for my country has started.”
10 years later she scored a Hat-trick in the Final of the 2015 World Cup and was awarded the Golden Ball (MVP) which is one of the highest honors in soccer. We wanted to understand the emotions she was going through then and she said, “At the time I was sitting in a daze and so happy for my teammates, coaches, and fans. After I received the awards that’s when I realized what had really just happened.”
She’s currently living in Manchester while playing there’s no really big changes lifestyle wise but she said, “ I love living in Manchester. It’s a great city with plenty to do. The time zone and driving on the opposite side of the road as well as the driver’s side are one of the biggest changes.”
She’s a beast when it comes to taking on challenges. She’s never seen a challenge she doesn’t want to face head on. “ I constantly take on challenges on and off the field. It is who I am, and I always want to be better than I was yesterday. This includes challenging myself to be a better person with every day that passes.
She’s a strong believer in living life and not worrying about impressing others. Sometimes that’s easier said than done. “I find that when I was younger I used to care more about what people thought of me, but as I got older, that mindset changed. I am happy and comfortable with whom I am as a person. I have a great husband, family, and friends and surrounded myself with people who genuinely care about me and treat me like a normal person.”
Her all-time favorite soccer player is MichelleAkers, but currently Lionel Messi and Andrés Iniesta. When it comes to setting goals she doesn’t really focus on long term and short term goals.” I worry about each day as it comes. I don’t like to look too far ahead. I would rather make sure that today is a success.”
She’s on a clean and healthy diet that consists of protein, fruits, and veggies. “I take my diet very seriously as I know it has a direct effect on my play and how I feel day in and day out.”
She lives by “Your strength is measured by how far you push your weakness.” James Galanis of Universal Soccer Academy has instilled this in her and it echoes in her mind constantly. We wanted to know her thought process a bit more. So we played ‘finish our sentence’ and this is what we found out!
When she wakes up in the morning her first thought is training. When she’s excited about something you’ll find her talking about it a lot. When she’s got free time you’ll find her running errands, getting a massage, manicure or pedicure while binge watching tv shows.
When it comes to it. She’s got three things she can’t live without Chapstick, Her iPhone, and her husband. Carli Married her High school sweetheart they started dating him her junior year when he was a sophomore at Delran High school they dated 15 years and got married shortly after the 2016 Olympics in Puerto Morelos, Mexico, November 4th.
