We’re launching our ‘Women Who Rock’ Series with radio Personality ‘Ms. Kelly Mac’ also known as the ‘Midday Mami’ (Spanish for Diva or Sexy Woman) lately she’s gotten a lot of negativity thrown in her direction, but we applaud the way she’s NOT letting this get to her so we decided to reach out to her.

We’re launching our ‘Women Who Rock’ Series with radio Personality ‘Mz. Kelly Mac’ also known as the ‘Midday Mami’ (Spanish for Diva or Sexy Woman) lately she’s gotten a lot of negativity thrown in her direction, but we applaud the way she’s NOT letting this get to her so we decided to reach out to her. We asked her about the negativity she’s faced as she’s changes stations and she said, “A lot of people don’t understand the radio game or better yet the entertainment industry. I don’t pay attention to the naysayers or the negative comments. In radio, you move around & it’s no different than being in the NBA, NFL, MLB or the Military. You go where you’re needed & where the best opportunity is. These jobs don’t come a dime a dozen so when something opens up that you want, you better go for it because it may be another 5-10 years before it comes back around.”

Now, If you’re unaware of what she’s talking about here’s a breakdown. In 2006 she started working in Greenville, South Carolina, but in 2011 she left to go to a top 10 market in Philadelphia. Her contract was transferred to a company in Chicago however, her son was in his senior year of high school and it was more important for him to graduate than to undergo such a big move during that time so she took 6 months off to allow her son to graduate. She soon returned back to Greenville because she owned property and the cost of living was feasible during the transition. When her former employer found out she was back in town they offered her an opportunity to come back and she accepted a contract to stay three additional years. “I hit a glass ceiling there. So I took a gig in Indianapolis which led me to Charlotte.”

Greenville’s radio market is at number fifty-nine and Indiana’s market is at number thirty-nine. However, Charlotte’s market is number twenty-four.Every move I made has been a step up and what we consider forward forward motion. We can’t live our life for others…we must do what’s best for us & our personal & profesional growth. So needless to say, those who are sowing negativity in my direction, you are truly motivating me!”

She hasn’t always wanted to be in radio however, she’s always wanted to be in the entertainment industry. Currently, she’s working with two radio stations V101.9 in Charlotte and 96.3 The Block in Greenville. She’s continuously working within the community with at risk youth as well. “I have a strong passion for the community. I make myself available to host non-profit events, and get the word out about various events and organizations when I can.”

When she’s not working you’ll find her swimming laps in the pool, in the kitchen cooking some of her favorites, shopping and spending time with her friends and family.

We asked her what does she think makes her great and she said, “God makes me great and he has blessed me with various gifts and talents. I know without his grace, mercy, and love there’d be no ‘Kelly Mac’.” Her faith in God plays a large role in her life. “My relationship with God is CRUCIAL to my everyday life. There’s not a day that goes by that I’m not thanking him for the doors he’s opened and the opportunities I’ve been granted.”

When it comes to music her favorite artist are Mary J. Blige, Jay-z, Tupac, Rihanna, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu & Drake. If she had the opportunity to interview anyone past or present she’d choose Michael Jackson as well as Oprah Winfrey.

When it comes to things she couldn’t live without she said, Most importantly I can’t live without my family, but after them, it would be my iPhone, credit card, Password and a good set of headphones.

On her bad days, you’ll find her listening to gospel music or reading over inspirational quotes. Focusing on the fact that God is still in control and family always comes first. She’d probably call her Aunt Janet, her cousin Princess or even her son for encouragement because “They always keep it 100 with me no matter what!”

If given the opportunity she’d love to visit Anguilla ‘I love tropical places and I hear it’s beautiful there. Also, Australia just because I want to see some live kangaroos jumping around.
