We had the pleasure of speaking with ‘Roxul Pop’ Artist Phenix recently we first wanted to know what Roxul Pop is she said, “It’s a blend of rock edges, soulful infusions, pop melodies and hip-hop grooves. Creating her own lane has definitely been something she’s done from the beginning! Originally from Wisconsin she’s not a Nashville, Tennessee native. “Tennessee has become my home in so many ways in the past five years.” She said.
Influenced by artist like Janis Joplin, Pat Benatar and other great rock and roll female powerhouse singers she said, “Anything that made my soul feel, I grew up attached too. So many different styles had adapted to the different stages of my life.” Her dad one of her biggest supporters started taking her to karaoke nights. “When I was really young I learned every word to David Phelps “End of the Beginning and performed it for my church. I did quite a few performances at church then my dad started taking me to karaoke nights – where I eventually started performing my own music.
As a teenager, she listened to women like Avril Lavigne, Evanescence but soon fell in love with Lady Gaga. She said, “When Lady Gaga hit the scene I was mesmerized at her unorthodox presence and found so much to relate to in her creative out of bounds character.”
Earlier this year she went on a small tour we asked about that experience she said, “I think my favorite show would have been at the Exit/In in Nashville, Tennessee. I performed there on March 31st for my EP Release. It had always been a venue that I was eager to grace the stage. It was an amazing night and the energy was incredible.”
When it comes to preparing for shows she practices in some shape or form daily. When it’s close to her shows she’s down for two 3 hour rehearsals in the days leading up to a show.
She’s really big on staying organized with her schedule and trying to balancing music with other obligations she admits, “I set priorities and make a hundred ‘To Do lists’ daily. I sacrifice a lot of time that could be going out with friends – instead lock myself in the studio. There’s ALWAYS something to be done EACH MINUTE of the day when you’re an indie artist.” She also admitted that running her own brand even with a great team in place you still need to stay on point and ahead of your competition.
Currently what’s mostly play around her music wise is Elliphant mostly. “She’s an artist based out of Sweden. She has fed me something new and I like to study it. Her sounds and how she writes – I relate to her at this point in my artistry – we align in a lot of ways.”
She looks up to the warriors, those who persevere and never stay down. “People that made the CHOICE to be happy and define their life by their own terms and NO ONE else’s. People that defied the odds because they just had that fight in them.”
When it comes to her loves and guilty pleasures she said, “I stick with water, coffee and tea. I stay on a pretty healthy lifestyle kick. Most of what I eat daily is grilled chicken, fish, eggs and vegetables. I also eat sushi pretty often When I get my cheat days. I’m ALL OVER Mexican food and Frozen Yogurt.” After a long day, she crawls into bed and usually passes out while watching ‘Family Guy’.
She’s gone a ton of music and material ready to be released however, she’s taking her time with her art. “The next single I will be dropping is ‘Ace Game’ and it will be releasing in September along with the video.” She’s also has two albums that will be released next year.
